Fast Downloads (Redirect)

MammothGames provides free web space to customers with game servers. Upload files using FTP. Files put in the subdomain directory can be addressed using the http:// format.

Web hosting is provided through Dreamhost.com.

You should see your login information as a news item in the game panel. We try to use your selected username/panel ID for the "yoursubdomain" and username for FTP. We also try to use your password. Sometimes your ID is already taken and we must assign the MammothGames ID ("mgxxx"). Please pay attention to case. Hosting is on Linux and is therefore case sensitive.

If you ordered fast downloads and didn't get the information, submit a ticket in the game panel. Fast downloads is manually setup and may take 24 hours.

  • FTP Server: yoursubdomain.mgassist.net
  • Username/login ID: your FTP login, often same as panel login
  • Password: your password

The subdomain name is usually "mgxxx.mgassist.net". "xxx" is your account number. The username is "mgxxx". If needed, your login information is listed in your client area under client details.

Your home directory is not where web site files need to be placed, and anything uploaded there will not be visible on the web.

If you have a domain or sub-domain hosted under this account, you should see a sub-directory within your home directory named after it. This is the directory you'll need to upload your files into if you want to see them on the web (once your domain becomes active).

Depending on your FTP program, you probably just need to double-click on that directory to move into it. While the exact process of uploading files differs from FTP client to FTP client, usually it is as simple as dragging and dropping the files over or selecting the files to upload and clicking on an "upload" button. The main thing is to ensure that they end up in the proper directory.

Note for source games:
You can compress the files on the fast download site for source games using the bzip2 format. It is not required, but recommended for large files as it will speed up the download of large files, such as maps.
Good GUI based program to do this include:

Programs like SmartFTP can automatically compress files, but again not free. If you do a lot of FTP work the combination of SmartFTP and WinRAR is usually worth the price.
